The horizontal disk grinder from Beaumont Metal Works is a professional grade tool to shape, sand, grind, deburr, finish or polish steel, metal alloys, wood, plastics and other materials with power and creative control.
This robust horizontal disk grinder comes with a 9-inch diameter solid aluminum disk powered by a 1 horsepower variable speed, fully reversible motor. A power on/off switch, a three position stop-start-run switch, and a forward-stop-reverse switch for immediate on-demand rotational reversibility come installed and standard on each horizontal disk grinder from Beaumont Metal Works.
The totally enclosed fan-cooled motor has a steel frame with permanently lubricated sealed bearings for extended life and a continuous duty cycle design for maximum operation at the rated power specifications. Users can adjust the rotational speed of the disk continuously during operation from 0 to 1750 RPM using the smooth speed dial on the controller.
The controller includes an internally selectable 2X frequency multiplier jumper which can be changed by the user to enable the grinding disk speed to double its top speed to 3500 RPM, while torque falls away above approximately 1500 RPM. This grinder’s cast aluminum controller housing has NEMA 4X enclosure rating for protection against windblown dust, rain, splashing water and airborne grit for heavy duty use, indoor or outdoor.
This horizontal disk grinder and its controller unit arrive mounted on a ½” thick rigid aluminum base with a 10”x15” footprint.

Beveled face disks have a 1 degree face angle so that long work pieces can be ground without rubbing the “uphill” side of the disk. The slight bevel does not cause a wrinkle in the abrasive
The optional disk work rest is custom-built for the horizontal disk grinder to provide a sturdy steel table surface for holding or guiding workpieces during grinding, sanding, shaping, finishing and polishing operations. Locking levers on the disk work rest allow easy positioning, tightening and holding actions. Simply lift the adjustable handle away from its threaded center to rotate freely, then release the handle to engage, and then tighten or release.
The work rest table’s distance from the disk and its tilting angle to the disk can be easily adjusted without tools using the locking levers. Location of the work rest table is also selectable by positioning it higher or lower on the face of the disk. The work rest’s steel frame is securely anchored for rigidity, and the work table can be removed quickly and easily at any time for free, full access to the 9” rotating disk.
The optional 9” round abrasive disk pack includes professional grade abrasive discs which are cloth backed, not paper backed, with high quality pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA). This combination of premium abrasives with a cloth backing and integral PSA provides superior performance during grinding without leaving residue behind when removed from the grinder’s aluminum disk. The uniform pressure sensitive adhesive on each abrasive round has protective release paper for ease of application and to keep the adhesive clean prior to use.
This twelve disk kit includes ceramic abrasive rounds in 60, 80 and 120 grit and premium aluminum oxide abrasive in 240, 320, and 400 grit; two of each grit are included in the kit. The ceramic rounds have a strong Y-weight polyester cloth supporting the long lasting, self-sharpening ceramic grains which contain a grinding aid to help reduce loading and workpiece temperatures. The aluminum oxide rounds have a durable X-weight cloth supporting premium aluminum oxide abrasive grains which work well on most materials.
Tip: it is easier to remove the cloth-backed abrasive round from the grinder’s aluminum disk while it is still warm from grinding.
